Lok Sabha Elections Date Announcement 2019 LIVE UPDATES: All eyes are on the Election Commission (EC) of India. The EC is all set to announce the date for General Elections 2019 in about an hour from now. The Election commission is also expected to announce the Assembly Elections Dates for four states, where polls will be likely held simultaneously along with the Lok Sabha, say sources. Some reports had earlier said that the poll panel may announce the dates of the crucial polls over the weekends, maybe even today, or early next week. The elections are likely to be held in multiple phases. The Election Commission is said to have finalised details of the polls and also concluded preparatory meetings. Once the poll dates are announced, the Model Code of Conduct will come into force. The Election Commission on Saturday convened a meeting to assess preparedness for the Lok Sabha elections. In the meeting, polls in Jammu and Kashmir was also reportedly discussed.

Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora said the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) comes into effect from today itself in the entire country. Any violation will be dealt with in the strictest manner.

Lok Sabha Election 2019 Phase 1

  • Date of issue of gazette notification: March 18
  • Last date of filing of nomination: March 25
  • Date of polls: April 11
  • Date of counting: May 23
  • The phase I polls will be held in 91 Lok Sabha constituencies in a total of 20 states. The states are: Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jammu and Kashmir, Maharashtra, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Odisha, Sikkim, Telangana, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, West Bengal, Andaman and Lakshadweep.

Lok Sabha Election 2019 Phase 2

  • Date of issue of gazette notification: March 19
  • Last date of filing of nomination: March 26
  • Date for scrutiny of nomination: March 27
  • Last date for withdrawal of candidature: March 29
  • Date of polls: April 18
  • Date of counting: May 23
  •  97 Lok Sabha constituencies of 13 states will be going to polls in the phase II. The states are: Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jammu and Kashmir, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Manipur, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, and Puducherry.

Lok Sabha Election 2019 Phase 3

  • Date of issue of gazette notification: March 28
  • Last date of filing of nomination: April 4
  • Date for scrutiny of nomination: April 5
  • Last date for withdrawal of candidature: April 8
  • Date of counting: May 23
  • Date of polls: April 23
  • Polling in phase III of Lok Sabha polls will be held on April 23 in a total of 115 constituencies apread across 14 states. The states are: Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Goa, Jammu and Kashmir, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, and Daman and Diu.

Lok Sabha Election 2019 Phase 4

  • Date of issue of gazette notification: April 2
  • Date of polls: April 29
  • Date of counting: May 23
  • The polling will be held in 71 constituencies spread across nine states. The states are: Bihar, Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal.

Lok Sabha Election 2019 Phase 5

  • Date of issue of gazette notification: April 10
  • Date of polls: May 6
  •  The polls will be conducted in 51 Lok Sabha constituencies spread across seven states that are: Bihar, Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal.

Lok Sabha Election 2019 Phase 6

  • Date of issue of gazette notification: April 16
  • Date of polls: May 12
  • The sixth phase of the polling will be held in 59 Lok Sabha constituencies spread across seven states. Polls in Delhi-NCR will be held in phase VI. The other six states are: Bihar, Haryana, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal.

Lok Sabha Election 2019 Phase 7

  • Date of polls: May 19
  • The term of the present Lok Sabha ends on June 3.
  • The election will be held in 59 constituencies of Bihar, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, West Bengal, Chandigarh (UT), Uttar Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh.

After SSR 2019 the total number of Polling Stations in the state is 11,316. The commission emphasized to ensure 100% AMF in all of them.The State Government has been directed to provide the AMF facilities for all the voters, specially to facilitate the PwD voters on all the polling station at the earliest.

Commission has directed to organize a participative, inclusive and people-friendly Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) campaign through all modes of communication for ensuring ethical and informed voting.

Commission is aware of the increasing concern about emerging role of social media in spread of information. The Commission has issued orders for partial modification in earlier guidelines that the Media Certification & Monitoring Committees at District and State level will need to be reconstituted with the inclusion of an Intermediary expert (intermediary as defined in section  2(w) of IT Act, 2000)/social media expert.  For the purpose of the certification of advertisements as per the Supreme Court order dated 13.04.2004, Returning Officer of the parliamentary constituency/District Election Officer, an ARO (not below SDM) and an Intermediary Expert/Social Media Expert shall be the members of the MCMC.             

The Commission considers media as its invaluable ally for election management and for implementation of election related laws, instructions and for monitoring the orders. The Commission has directed that regular press briefings must be held by the CEO and the DEOs and all crucial information be passed on to all the stakeholders through the media.
